Hurrication

That's local speak for "Hurricane Vacation," which is what we're on in Memphis right now.  The weather here in Blues City is fantastic - sunny, blue skies, and warm.  I'm sure it's a stark contract to what's going to happen in New Orleans over the next 36 to 48 hours.

The family is doing well!  Please don't worry about us now because we're safe and sound, enjoying a free breakfast at the Homewood Suites in the Germantown area of the city.  We have a Whole Foods nearby, and many great restaurants, so we're set.

At this time, we don't know how long we're going to be here, but one thing is sure:  If we're here for three to four months, we're finding a preschool for Jackson!  He's a great little boy, and he needs to be around kids his own age from time to time.  Also, if we're here for awhile, I may consider running for city council.  I'm sure they need opinionated outsiders telling them what they've been doing wrong for decades.  I might even start a blues band.

The All-Doofus Blues Band

The All-Doofus Blues Band - I'm the second doofus from the left.

Jackson just woke up, so we're going to get him ready so we can explore our new hurrihome.  I'm trying to talk Miranda into visiting Graceland, but she's balking at the idea.

Memphis is filled with doofuses, which is why it's my kind of town!

I don't know why.  I hope we get to see the infamous bathroom where the King bonked his head on the throne, but I heard they don't show that on the tour.  What if I have to go to the bathroom?

Okay, we're on our way out.  More later!

Adam and Gustav's Excellent Adventure

It's currently 5:57 a.m., and we're getting ready to pack the car to head to Memphis while Gustav comes in for a visit.  I plan to chronicle our trip and what happens here, so stay tuned for (hopefully) updates on what we're doing and what's going on here in the Gulf Coast.

I spent the whole day yesterday getting the house as ready as we can for a hurricane.  I've never boarded a window in my life, but it's amazing how quickly you can teach yourself when a category 3 storm is staring you in the face!    I think the projected path that DeWayne sent me yesterday says it all:

HOLY SHIT!!!

Thanks to a very organized wife, we have everything ready to go, and we're about to pack in all in the car.  From the news reports, I-10 is already bumper-to-bumper, so it's going to be a slow ride out of town for most of the day.  I don't know when we'll make Memphis, but hopefully it'll be sometime tonight.  Also, the alternator on my car just started acting up for the first time a couple days ago, so I really hope that doesn't crap out along the way.  We'll see.

Anyway, we plan to take pictures, so you might see some of those up soon.

Okay, gotta start loading the car.  Stay tuned!

Is it mid-life crisis time yet?

As more and more of us enter Club 45, I'm just wondering if any of you are on the cusp of your mid-life crisis yet.  If so how are you going to handle it?  Also,  how many of you have been inked.  What is it? How long have you had it?  Where is it located?  Can we see it?

I'll go first.

I am on the cusp of it, and am not sure how I want to rebel.  I have a project vehicle that I am in the beginning stages of restoring.  It is a 1986 Jeep CJ7.  Not sure if it is rebellious enough, though.  I'm thinking some kind of adventurous vacation, probably just for me as this seems to be personal, but not sure what or where yet.  Any suggestions?

As for ink, I have a tatoo of Dale from the Chip-n-Dale cartoons.  I have had it longer than I haven't meaning I got it when I was 22.  It is located on my right front shoulder, and you can see it only if I show it.

This could be an interesting thread, I think, look forward to reading these.
